Writers’ Group: Fanfic edition

Join us this Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, at 6:30 for discussion of creating fanworks.
At their most basic, fanworks allow the consumer to continue to live in and enjoy the universe of a work that gives them pleasure. It may continue existing character/plot lines; it may develop interstitial moments within existing themes and stories; it may take characters/settings and go off in new directions to explore them better; or it may combine characters from more than one ‘verse.
We’ll talk about the most common genres of fanfiction, where they’re published, how to create your own, and the social conventions of the fanfiction realm.
Some of us began our fanfics this summer, working on a group project based upon the 1950 Disney movie “Cinderella.” It’s not too late to join in, if you’d like to play along. Bit it’s also fine if you want to just come and listen, to find out what this new (very old) form of fiction that’s increasingly in the press actually is about.
Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms. — Angela Carter
