Say goodbye, dropbox

Much as we Seldovians like to hang onto things from our past, the book return drop outside the library is just something we can’t afford to be sentimental about any longer.
It’s old, rusty, leaky, bent up, and what’s even worse, it’s causing too much damage to the books and movies left in it.
The library board has arranged for it to be taken away and disposed of in the coming weeks. That means that starting right now the lock is removed and it’s no longer in service.
And yes, that does mean that for now books need to be brought into the library to be returned.
We know that this will be less convenient and we’re sorry. We’re asking everyone to please, don’t just drop books by the outside door in the weather or inside on the landing where anyone can pick them up: that’s not “returned” and they remain your responsibility if they go missing before we have a chance to check them in.
We’re looking at other possible solutions for secure, non-weather-vulnerable book returns and we’ll let you know just as soon as we have something better cooked up.
