Now available for loan: internet safety software
Posted by Laura Haskins - Library Director on March 20, 2011
The library has recently received copies of parental internet monitoring software for loan to our patrons. This is part of a state program and comes to us from the Alaska Dept. of Public Safety. The software itself is produced by ComputerCOP, and is endorsed by D.A.R.E. Alaska.
We have several copies of the program, distributed on CD, for use on Windows machines running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (Mac and Unix operating systems are not supported by this version). They may be checked out for a week at a time and can be found on the shelves up front with the new books.
Note that this software is not of the type that limits access to specific sites or types of material but rather allows parents to determine what sites and files other computer users have downloaded or viewed.
