A new look, inside and out

Posted by Laura Haskins - Library Director on December 9, 2008

Have you stopped by the library recently? Or maybe you noticed a change when you came to vote in the November election? If not, you have a visual treat in store.

Library entrance

Along with a number of public libraries across the country, the Seldovia Public Library was awarded a grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities under their Picturing America program.  We received these lovely posters of American art. You can see the whole set in a gallery at the program website, but why not drop by and view them in person? They’re in the hall on the landing, along the staircase, and all through the library itself. We also have a great manual on display in the library with information about the various works.

Don’t like one of our choices? Don’t worry. These posters are two-sided and come spring, we’re planning to turn them all over so we can enjoy the other sides for awhile.

And–this was a surprise even to us–for a special local trivia question: What long-time city resident’s father was portrayed by one of the currently-featured artists? If you’re stumped, stop by the library on a Saturday and we’ll share our discovery.
