An all-volunteer library serving the Seldovia, Alaska community since 1935

Genealogy

Seldovia Genealogy CenterThe Genealogy Center is an annex to the Seldovia Public Library.

Located downstairs from the main library in the city’s Multipurpose Building, the center is staffed by volunteers and may be open different hours from the main library. As with the main library, the center’s services are available at no charge to community members and visitors alike.

The center was founded by a group of Seldovians with an interest in researching their own family histories and has been a part of the library since 2005. They offer computer database access, printed resources, tools, and assistance for researching individual family genealogy and history. Among references on hand are maps of the Seldovia Cemetery and a copy of Cemetery Inscriptions And Area Memorials in Kenai Peninsula Borough as well as more general genealogical research references, books from other states, and older references. The center also has an extensive list of genealogy magazines for checkout.

Seldovia, 1923, by Enid StrykerNo experience in genealogical research is required, and the center has tools and computers to teach you how to use available resources. All they need to get you started is names; approximate birth, marriage, death dates; and locations of these events. Your information stays with you and is not shared unless you choose to do so.

To help you in your research, we’ve also bookmarked some useful references and databases that you can use..

Volunteers are available for private consultation. While there are no fees for their services, there may be media charges for copying or document copy orders.
