For Sookie Stackhouse, the day to day activities of the vampire and were communities in and around Bon Temps, Louisiana, are of vital interest, She’s blood-bound to the leader of the vamps, a friend to the local were pack, works for a man who is shifter, and has a brother who is a were-panther…
But for most of the humans in Bon Temps, the vamps are mysterious seductive creatures-and they don’t even know about the weres.
Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to follow the lead of the undead and reveal their existence to the ordinary world.
At first it seems to go well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found in the parking lot of the bar where Sookie works. The victim is someone she knows, so she feels compelled to discover who-human or otherwise-did the deed.
But what she doesn’t realize is that there is a far greater danger than the killer threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings–older, more powerful and far more secretive than vampires or werewolves– is preparing for war. And Sookie will find herself an all-too human pawn in their battle… (Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Series, #9)

The Fourth of July is less than a month away and we’re getting ready for our annual book sale. We’ve got another great set of treasures for you again this year, so do plan to stop by our sale in the library parking lot (or under the porch overhang and indoors on the landings, in case of rain) on the Fourth.
Like what? Oh, we’ve got books, old and not so old. We’ve got movies on various media. We’ve got some audiocassettes this year. We cleaned out our basement storeroom and came up with a box of toys and a bunch of old televisions and projectors and we’re not, in fact, absolutely sure what all these things are. Treasures, for sure.
We’ll be setting up when the pancake breakfast opens and we’ll be there until midafternoon, but don’t forget that the best stuff goes first. On the other hand, by 3 pm we’re thinking about packing up and going home, so you can score some real deals by making an offer to take stuff off our hands in batches.
Do you have some stuff around the house that you’ve been promising yourself you’d donate to us before the sale but just haven’t gotten around to delivering? It’s not too late: just drop it by the library any time we’re open. Please don’t leave it outside, though: we’ve sadly had to throw donations away in the past when they got rained on (or worse, thanks to the local dogs). And if you can’t remember to bring them by beforehand, sure, we’ll still take donations the day of the sale.
Remember: every dollar you spend at the sale goes straight into our collection to buy new books and movies for the use of our community. So you win twice over: the great treasures you bring home from the sale and the new purchases you fund that will be waiting for you next time you come to the library. In these economic times, that’s a real bargain, don’t you think?
See you there, Saturday, July 4. And although Saturdays are normally an open day for the library, please note that regular library services will not be available on the holiday.

It’s that time of year: our seasonal residents and visitors are arriving and with the nicer weather, everyone wants to play outdoors all day. So we’re expanding our hours to include two evenings a week.
We’ll continue our Tuesday openings and we’re adding a Thursday evening, both from 7-9 pm. Those will be in addition to our Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday daytime openings.
They’re all spelled out for you in the lefthand sidebar and on the sign at the Multipurpose Building entrance, if you forget.
Hope to see you soon!
